Description

The Grove is a farmhouse with a core dating from the mid-16th century, featuring alterations and additions from around 1600 and the early 19th century. The structure is timber framed and plastered, with an early 19th-century south wing built in colourwashed brick, creating an L-shaped plan. It has a shallow-pitched hipped roof covered with pantiles and glazed black tiles at the front. The building has two storeys and an attic.

The north front displays three irregularly spaced 18th-century small-paned casement windows, a mid-20th-century six-panel door, and a doorcase. There is a heavy axial stack with a rebuilt shaft. The early 19th-century wing features three windows under segmental arches; the ground floor has mid-20th-century four-light casements without glazing bars, while the first floor includes 18th-century small-paned casements and a small central sash window with glazing bars. A 20th-century flat-roofed porch with panelled doors is also present.

Inside, the hall has a moulded bridging beam and chamfered joists, with similar but defaced moulding on the storey posts. The parlour ceiling showcases fine cross beams with multiple mouldings. There is some good studding, including one 16th-century window with cavetto-moulded square mullions. The lower end of the house, a replacement from around 1600, features an ovolo-moulded bridging beam in the service chamber and ovolo-moulded joists in the adjacent room. An early 19th-century stair is located in the south wing.
