Description
Green Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-16th century, with an early 17th-century stack and a parlour addition. The 16th-century section was heightened by about one meter in the 19th century. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with a pantiled roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, arranged in a three-cell form. The windows are scattered and consist of 18th- and 19th-century casements, along with two boarded doors. Inside, there is an internal stack with a rebuilt plain shaft. The 16th-century section includes two bays, which comprise the service end and one bay of the hall. The earlier half of the hall features re-set 16th-century joists. The first floor framing is exposed and includes reversed braces, as well as a blocked diamond-mullioned window in the service chamber. The parlour has a ceiling with chamfered joists, and the parlour chamber retains intact studding with reversed braces. The roof over the parlour cell includes stepped diminished butt purlins and arched wind-bracing. The staircase is a newel type, with the upper flight being original, and there are some early internal doors.
