Description

Potash Farmhouse is a 15th-century farmhouse, significantly modernised in the mid-20th century. It is constructed with timber framing and plaster, and has a half-hipped thatched roof. The building is one-and-a-half storeys high. It features mid-20th century casement windows and a boarded door. There are two internal stacks. Originally an open hall house of three-cell form, the interior has been extensively altered, with limited structural elements remaining visible. An intact open truss from the hall retains a slightly cambered tie beam and massive arched braces, along with a tall cruciform crown post. Much of the original roof appears to remain. In the north end, there is some remaining studding and evidence of an 8-light diamond-mullioned window. A 16th-century inserted ceiling includes chamfered joists.
