Description

Moat Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with a rear range that is likely a slightly later addition. It has an L-shaped plan and is constructed with timber framing and plaster, topped with a roof of glazed black pantiles. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring a three-cell front range with three windows that are 19th-century three-light casements without glazing bars. To the left, there is a long former dairy window that is now glazed. The central entrance has a six-panel door, with the upper two panels being glazed, and is sheltered by a mid-20th-century open porch. There is an internal stack and another stack at the right gable end. The rear wing includes a gable stack with shafts arranged in a sawtooth pattern. Attached to this gable end is a small 1½-storey plastered addition. The interior remains largely unmodernised, showcasing good studding, though much is covered by wallpaper or limewash. There are two arched fireplaces on the first floor, plastered and lined to imitate stonework. The rear range features an ovolo-moulded bridging beam, a blocked window with ovolo mullions, and some 17th-century panelled oak doors. The attics were not accessible at the time of the survey. Additionally, there are remains of a medieval moat on the property.
