Description
Benedict Cottage is a house that likely dates back to the 14th century, with alterations and additions made in the 16th and 17th centuries. It is timber framed, mostly plastered, and features a thatched roof. The building has one and a half storeys and includes three 19th-century casement windows. The entrance door is half-glazed and centrally located, and there are two eyebrow dormers. Small gable stacks are present, with the one on the left being external. The frame consists of four bays, with a two-bay former open hall on the right, although the open truss has been removed. There are signs of an extra tie beam on each side of the open truss, indicating a 14th-century origin. The inserted floor has chamfered joists with run-out stops, and the left-hand bay is likely a later addition.
