Description
Lane Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 15th century, with a parlour addition from the late 16th century. It is timber framed and plastered, featuring whitewashed brick on the gable ends, and has a half-hipped thatched roof. The building has one and a half storeys. The ground floor includes mid-20th century standard casement windows with large panes, while the upper floor has 19th century casement windows, including one in the form of an eyebrow dormer. There is an internal stack inserted against the upper end of the hall, which has a plain 16th century shaft. Originally, the house had a two-bay open hall with a service end to the right. The hall features a queen-post roof, although the structure is mostly concealed; the open truss in the hall remains intact but has been boxed in. The shaped heads on the storey posts in the parlour suggest that this part of the house may have been added or rebuilt. There is also a newel stair.
