Description
Foals Green Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century that was modernised around 1980 with the addition of a large wing to the rear. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with a thatched roof, and has two storeys plus an attic. The layout is a three-cell, lobby entrance type. The farmhouse features mid-20th century casement windows and a half-door within an open lean-to porch.
Two original first-floor windows with ovolo mullions have been revealed, along with another window at the rear. There is an internal stack with a rebuilt oblong shaft, and the base at the rear has an empty inset panel. The frame is well-preserved, showcasing reversed corner braces that are mostly exposed inside.
Inside the hall, there is an ovolo-moulded bridging beam and square chamfered joists. The parlour also features an ovolo-moulded bridging beam, although the joists here were originally plastered over. Both rooms include ovolo side cornices and there are two arched brick fireplaces on the first floor. The original newel stairs consist of two flights. The roof structure includes clasped and butt purlins with arched wind-bracing.
