Description
Mills Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring a two-cell front range with an additional wing at the rear. The front has two windows with 18th-century small-paned casements and a central axial stack that has a rebuilt shaft. The entrance door, located in the rear wing, is from the mid-20th century.
Inside, the ground floor of the front range has one room with an ovolo-moulded bridging beam and joists set on edge. The opposite room and both first-floor chambers have ceilings with cross beams, also ovolo-moulded. In the chambers, there are two well-crafted three-centre arched brick fireplaces and intact studding with reversed bracing. The end section of the rear range is part of a second wing, likely built around the same time. The ground floor of the rear wing has been somewhat altered and includes many re-used timbers, with one floor beam dated 1675.
