Description
Low Farmhouse is a former farmhouse that has been converted into two cottages, with the right cottage remaining unmodernised. It dates from the late 16th century and features a timber frame that is plastered, while the ground floor has mostly been rebuilt in colourwashed brick. The building has a pantiled roof and stands two storeys high with an attic, arranged in a three-cell form.
The left cottage has mid-20th century small-paned casement windows and a six-panel door, while the right cottage has 19th century casements. There is an internal stack and single-storey additions at each gable end. The left cottage showcases exposed first floor studding with reversed bracing, and an arched brick fireplace in the hall chamber. The parlour in the right cottage features a bridging beam that is cased in moulded plasterwork, with the ceiling divided into four sections by plaster-moulded cross beams, each with a moulded border. Additionally, the right cottage retains the original newel stairs. The roof structure includes clasped and butt purlins, along with cranked wind-bracing.
