Description
Moat Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century. The ground floor features red brick casing, with a brick dated 'J.D.V1869'. The building has a main range with a cross wing on the right side. It is constructed with timber framing and plastered panels, with some red brick casing primarily on the ground floor. The roofs are plaintiled at the front and pantiled at the rear. The farmhouse is two storeys high with attics in the main range and consists of a three-cell layout. There are five windows, including those in the cross wing, with various casements. The entrance is a lobby with a 19th-century four-panel door and a plain rectangular fanlight. A small gable is located above the window at the right end of the main range, with an identical doorway below. The main range includes one gabled dormer and an internal stack with rebuilt flues arranged in a sawtooth pattern; the base of the stack has an inset rectangular panel inscribed with 'E' over 'HB'. At the rear of the main range, there is a good original five-light mullion and transom window, although the lower lights are now blocked. The farmhouse is situated on a moated site.
