Description

Valley Farmhouse is a mid-16th century farmhouse, originally timber-framed and later plastered with colourwashed brick to the gable ends. The roof is covered with plain tiles, with more recent tiles at the rear. The house has two storeys and was originally a three-cell, cross-entry plan. It features various casement windows, with three 18th-century square-leaded windows to the first floor. Some original windows remain, exhibiting moulded mullions and slight alterations. A mid-20th century gabled porch provides access to a six-panel raised and fielded door. An internal stack is present, along with two later stacks at the service end, one situated against the front wall. A single-storey addition extends to the right. Inside, the hall retains a moulded bridging beam and chamfered joists; the heads of the storey posts are distinguished by exceptionally ornate carving. A good-quality plank and muntin partition is set against the cross-passage, and blocked square-headed doorways lead into the service cell from each end of the cross-passage. The parlour features a moulded bridging beam and a fine open fireplace with a cambered lintol. Exposed framing is visible on both floors.
