Description
Baptist Chapel, dating from 1810, was enlarged in 1850 and renovated and re-seated in 1897. The chapel is constructed of red brick with a white brick facade, featuring a first-floor brick band. The roof is hipped with two spans and covered in glazed black pantiles. The symmetrical facade has two slightly inset bays, each containing a flush-frame sash window with small panes. Matching doorways sit below, each with a six-panel door, moulded architrave, and a semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars. A tall, semi-circular headed window is centrally positioned, beneath a tablet commemorating the martyrdom of John Noyes near the site in 1557. The three-bay returns are inset with two-light casement windows set within flat arches. A gallery extends around three sides, supported by slender cast iron columns. The majority of the gallery benches are original, while other seating and the pulpit date from the 1897 renovation.
