Description

Salford Lodge is a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with later additions and alterations. The building features roughcast timber framing and has a projecting brick addition on the ground floor to the left. It has a concrete tile roof, with a shallow tile roof extending across the entire ground floor. A brick stack, made of old thin bricks, has four 20th-century octagonal shafts and is located between the front range and the rear wing. The structure is arranged in a complex L-plan and stands two storeys tall with a two-window range.

The front entrance includes a 16th-century or earlier four-plank studded door with decorative hinges, set in a heavy wood surround with a simple broad moulding. This door is flanked by two windows and is accessed through a mid-20th-century large glazed porch. The windows are cross windows with an additional glazing bar on the first floor, while the ground floor features mid-20th-century casements. The left side of the building is constructed of late 18th or early 19th-century red brick, with a brick flat arch above the ground floor window and a segmental arch above the first-floor window. The rear wing, dating from the 17th or 18th century, has a two-panelled door with strap hinges in a moulded surround. The fenestration is irregular, and there is a low single-storey timber-framed addition on the right side of the main block. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is noted to have some close studding and a heavy ceiling beam on the first floor.
