Description
Manor Farm Cottages, now two separate houses, date back to the 15th century and were altered in the 16th century. The cottages were restored following a fire in 1983. They are timber-framed with rendered infill panels set on a limestone base, and have a thatched roof. The original plan comprised three bays aligned east to west. A chimney is located at the west end of the east bay, featuring two diamond-shaped brick shafts. The cottages are single-storey with an attic space, which is lit by three eyebrow dormers. There are three two-light casement windows on the ground floor. The entrances, which are approached by steps, have 20th-century ledged doors positioned to the right and left. The timber framing displays a mix of large and small square panels. A cruck truss is found in the east gable, while the west gable is weatherboarded. Medieval Archaeology, Vol 28 (1984), p 222, provides further details.
