Description
Upper Spernall Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with a front range added in the mid to late 19th century and various alterations. The building is timber framed with brick infill and has a brick addition. It features tile roofs, with brick ridges and external stacks, and is arranged in an L-plan. The farmhouse is two storeys high, with an attic, and the front range has two storeys and a three-window range. The symmetrical front displays two slightly projecting cross wings. The central entrance consists of a four-panelled door with an overlight, set within an open porch. The windows are segmental arched casements with painted stone sills.
On the left return side of the rear range, there is substantial exposed framing with jowled posts and a gable. There is also a further one-storey and attic range, partly faced in brick, featuring an external stack and a catslide roof. Beyond this section, some lath and plaster infill is visible. The fenestration is irregular, with casements that have glazing bars and fixed light windows. The rear side of the wing is faced in brick and has a one-window range with a half-dormer. Inside, the wing is noted for its exposed framing and chamfered ceiling beams.
