Description
The Old Rectory is a house that was originally built as a rectory in the early 18th century. It underwent alterations and additions in 1800 and the mid-19th century. The front is made of brick with imitation ashlar render, featuring rusticated quoins and a string course band. It has rendered hood moulds and a moulded wood eaves cornice. The roof is covered with old tiles and has brick end stacks. The building has a central staircase plan, is two storeys high with an attic, and has a three-window range. A 19th-century porch with a four-panelled door and overlight is framed by a moulded wood surround, and decorative bargeboards with a finial adorn the roof. The windows include 20-pane sashes and a 12-pane central sash. There are three pedimented roof dormers with casements that have glazing bars. The left side of the building features an external stack with two small windows, while the rear is irregular in shape. Inside, the drawing room on the right has well-preserved early 18th-century painted bolection moulded panelling and an early 18th-century oak dog-leg staircase with turned balusters. There is a room with an open fireplace and early 18th-century two-panelled doors with H-hinges. The attic floor contains three plank doors.
