Description

Breach Oak Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, with alterations made in the 19th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill and some rebuilding in 19th-century brick at the rear. The roof is covered with plain tiles.

On the left side, there is a large sandstone external stack with two star-shaped shafts made of thin bricks, and a large central brick ridge stack that has two rows of two arched panels. The building is L-shaped with a large wing on the left and has two storeys plus an attic, with a total of four windows across the front.

There is a 19th-century ribbed door located in the angle of the L, and an open porch with a plain-tile hipped roof. A similar door on the right features a brick segmental arch. The windows are irregularly placed, with three-light casements that have horizontal glazing bars on the left side. The first floor includes an old two-light lead-latticed casement, along with 19th and 20th-century two-light casements. The long wing has some of its framing replaced with brick, and there is a 20th-century wood mullioned and transomed four-light window on the ground floor. The first floor and attic have 20th-century three-light casements, while the two-light casements have leaded lights.

The left return side and rear of the farmhouse are largely rebuilt in brick. The interior has not been inspected.
