Description

Townsend Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with a left range added in the early 19th century and mid-19th century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed ironstone, while the left range is made of red Flemish bond brick. It features tile roofs, with the left range having a coped stone gable parapet. There is a stone former end stack and a right end stack made of 19th century blue brick. The farmhouse has a two-unit plan that has been extended to a four-unit layout.

The structure is two storeys high, with an addition that includes two storeys and an attic, and it has a three-window range. The entrance features a plank door set in a simple stone doorcase with brackets and a stone hood. On the left side, there is a four-light stone-mullioned window with the remains of a hood mould. To the right, a two-storey mid-19th century rectangular bay window extends above the eaves, topped by a steep gable parapet. There are also three-light stone-mullioned windows present. The addition has a blocked doorway with a wooden lintel, and the ground floor features casements with painted wood lintels. The left return side has casements beneath brick segmental arches. The rear of the building is irregular, with both ranges made of stone and 19th century single-storey brick additions. There is a single-storey wing at right angles on the right side, which has a hipped roof. The interior has not been inspected.
