Description

Radway Institute is a village hall dated 1852, built for and endowed by John Chambers. It is constructed from regularly coursed ironstone and features tile roofs with coped gable parapets and kneelers. The building has an L-plan layout, with the main range positioned at right angles to the road, and is designed in the Gothic Revival style.

The entrance front has one bay, featuring a central gabled porch that includes a six-panel double-leaf door set within a chamfered Tudor arched doorway, which has a straight head and moulded spandrels. Above the door is a datestone displaying a shield with the initials CC, RN, and JC. The porch also contains a hollow-chamfered four-centred lancet window in a square chamfered surround with moulded spandrels. Throughout the building, doors and windows are adorned with hood moulds and foliage-carved block stops, while a quatrefoil shield panel is located at the apex of the gable.

The return sides of the building feature windows with three lancets in square heads and moulded spandrels. The left side has a two-window range, and a small wing at right angles includes late 20th-century glazed double doors. The right side, facing Kineton Road, has a three-window range. The hall was originally built as 'The Church Institute, for the encouragement of general literature' on a site provided by Charles Chambers, who also constructed and endowed the nearby school, now known as The School House.
