Description
Mole End Cottage, Sunbeam Cottage, Jasmine Cottage, and Rose Cottage are a row of four cottages located on the south side of Tysoe Road. They date from the late 17th century and 18th century, with Mole End Cottage believed to have been built in 1682. The cottages are constructed from coursed ironstone and feature thatched roofs, with brick and stone ridge and end stacks. They were not built at the same time and have various plans, consisting of one storey and an attic, with a total of seven window openings.
Mole End Cottage, on the left, has a two-unit plan and a two-window range. It features a central 20th-century thatched glazed porch with a plank door. The ground floor windows have horizontal glazing bars, while the first floor includes a part-leaded casement on the left and a cross window with glazing bars on the right. There are remains of a stone stack on the right side.
Sunbeam Cottage and Jasmine Cottage each have a one-unit plan and a one-window range. Sunbeam Cottage has a late 20th-century half-glazed door on the left, while Jasmine Cottage features a 20th-century thatched glazed porch. Both cottages have casement windows with horizontal glazing bars. Between Jasmine and Rose Cottages, there is a coped stone gable parapet.
Rose Cottage, on the right, was likely originally a detached two-unit cottage that has been extended to a three-unit layout by linking it to Jasmine Cottage. It has a three-window range, a plank door, and a thatched open timber porch with a cut-out trefoil. The left bay contains two plank doors, and the leaded casements have ground floor windows with hood moulds, although the right side has missing return stops and wood lintels inserted below. There is a stone and brick ridge stack. The interiors of the cottages have not been inspected.
