Description
Stockwell Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a right wing dated 1698, and the remainder built in the late 18th century, with slight alterations in the late 19th century. The right wing is constructed of ironstone ashlar, with some brick patching to the rear. The 18th-century range is of raking Flemish bond red brick, featuring a string course to the rear and a dog-tooth cornice carried across and around the gables. The roofs are covered with old tiles; the 18th-century range has brick ridge stacks at the right end. The building is in an L-shape, with a wing on the left.
The main range is two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. The wing is one storey and an attic. A plank door is located in the angle of the L. The right wing has a half-glazed door and a porch. The wing also has late 19th-century wood mullioned and transomed three-light windows inserted into altered openings, with wooden lintels. First-floor windows and those in the attic of the main range are two-light casements with horizontal glazing bars. Most windows are set within brick segmental arches.
On the right return side of the right wing are three-light recessed-chamfered stone mullioned windows. A datestone bearing the initials ‘ILA’ in a simple moulded panel is also visible. A 20th-century casement window is on the rear elevation. The main range has casements to the first floor; two lights to the left and three lights to the right, all with glazing bars. The interior of the farmhouse was not inspected.
