Description

2 Haven Cottage is a two-storey building with an attic, constructed from regularly coursed ironstone and featuring a limestone string course. It has a late-20th century tile roof and 19th-century brick end and ridge stacks. The cottage has a two-unit plan.

The main elevation displays a three-window arrangement. The entrance doorway, located between the second and third bays, features a late-20th century plank door with a light that has been inserted into a former window. To the left, there is a 19th-century window that has been placed in a partially blocked doorway. The windows throughout the building are primarily 19th-century two-light casements with horizontal glazing bars, along with some late-20th century two and three-light casements. The ground floor openings are topped with stone flat arches that have keystones, which connect to the string course. Additionally, there are two late-20th century box roof dormers. The rear of the cottage includes chamfered fire windows on the left and right, with two openings featuring keystones, while the central opening is partially blocked.

Inside, the ground-floor rooms on either side of the stair have exposed chamfered and scroll-stopped ceiling beams, along with chamfered joists that have run-out stops. Each room contains wide fireplaces with bressumers above and stone uprights and linings. The stair rises between these two rooms. The first-floor rooms also have similar exposed beams and joists. In the end bedrooms, beams that straddle the chimney breasts have cut-out sections, indicating the locations of former winder stairs. The attic rooms have modern finishes, with principal rafters boxed-in and some of the purlins replaced in the 20th century.
