Description

The Bakery Cottage and Blenco Brow are two houses located on Middle Street in Northend, Burton Dassett. The Bakery Cottage, likely dating from the 16th century, features a rear section that was added in the late 18th or early 19th century, along with some 20th-century alterations. Blenco Brow, on the other hand, was built in the mid-18th century and mid-19th century. Both buildings are constructed from squared coursed ironstone and have old tile roofs. The rear range of The Bakery Cottage has coped gable parapets with kneelers on the left, as well as brick ridge and end stacks.

The Bakery Cottage is designed in a T-plan and consists of two storeys with a three-window range. It has a part-glazed six-panelled door and a 20th-century canopy with metal supports. To the left, there is a French window with glazing bars, and to the right, a small two-light casement window with horizontal glazing bars. The first floor features two-light 20th-century casements. The right windows have stone flat arches with keystones, while other openings are topped with wooden lintels. At the rear, there is a three-window range with a 20th-century panelled door and old three-light casements with glazing bars, along with 20th-century windows on the first floor. Inside, there was a former through passage that now opens into the rear range, featuring a moulded stone four-centre arched doorway and a former open fireplace. The interior has broad stop-chamfered beams throughout, and a timber-framed partition on the first floor has a simple arched former doorway.

Blenco Brow, located to the left, has a 19th-century front range made of regular coursed ironstone and also features a three-window range with a cross gable on the right. A half-glazed door is situated between the second and third bays, leading to an open porch with a semi-circular metal hood. The central ground floor has stone mullioned two-light windows. At the rear, there is a two-window main range with a part-glazed six-panelled door and two and three-light casements. The ground floor openings have segmental relieving arches, and the left wing has two-light casements on the right return side. Throughout, there are horizontal glazing bars and painted wood lintels. The interior of Blenco Brow has not been inspected.
