Description

Northend Methodist Church is a Methodist chapel built in 1831, with a Sunday School room added in 1900. The chapel is constructed of Flemish bond red brick and features a brick dentil cornice, while the Sunday School is made of paler brick. It has a stone plinth and a concrete pantile roof, with the Sunday School having a tiled roof. The building has a small rectangular plan and a two-window range, with a gable front. The central entrance consists of a four-panelled door and a fanlight, with 16-pane sash windows above that have round-arched openings and painted tympana. The brick arches above the windows have keystones. The gable displays a datestone inscribed "Wesleyan Chapel." On the right side, there is a large three-light window with horizontal glazing bars, and the rear features cross windows from around 1900, also with horizontal glazing bars and brick segmental arches. The Sunday School projects from the left side and has a four-panelled door with a painted lintel. There are two round-arched iron windows with glazing bars on the right return side. Inside, there is an original gallery supported by cast iron columns with a panelled front, and fittings from around 1900. The church is included for its group value.
