Description

Northend Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that was altered in the late 18th or early 19th century. It is constructed of regular coursed ironstone with a concrete tile roof. A 20th-century brick stack sits on the ridge, along with stacks to the rear. The farmhouse has an L-shaped plan, with a long wing extending to the rear. It is two storeys high and has a four-window front. A flush six-panelled door is located in the second bay, and there are a mix of old and 19th/20th-century tripartite sash windows. Painted wooden lintels are present throughout. The rear of the farmhouse is irregular. A two-light stone mullioned window with a hood mould is visible, along with a 20th-century door inserted into a window of a similar design, and 20th-century casement windows. The interior is said to contain a 17th-century staircase.

Attached to the farmhouse is a late 18th or early 19th-century barn and shelter shed range. The construction is of coursed squared ironstone to the front, with a timber-framed and boarded rear. It has corrugated iron half-hipped and hipped roofs. It is an L-shaped range, with a shelter shed in a wing to the rear. The main barn has five bays, with central double doors, a stable door on the left, and pitch doors above the first and third bays. A further pitch door is located on the right return side. The shelter shed range has sliding doors. The rear elevation is largely obscured by later additions, and some of the shelter shed openings have been bricked up. The interior of the barn range has not been inspected.
