Description
Knightcote Post Office is a cottage, post office, and shop that was originally a cottage and forge, dating from the 17th to early 18th century, with alterations made in the late 20th century. The cottage is constructed of rendered brick with painted sham framing, while the former forge range to the right is timber framed with whitewashed brick infill. The building features late 20th-century tile roofs, with rendered ends and brick ridge stacks. It has a two-unit plan with a one-unit forge range, standing two storeys and one storey with an attic, and has a three-window range. The entrance includes a late 20th-century part-glazed plank door and an open porch. Late 20th-century leaded casements are present throughout, with three lights on the ground floor, the left window having a segmental arch, and two lights above. The forge range includes a dormer. A late 20th-century shop is attached at right angles to the right side of the building. Inside, there are ogee stop-chamfered ceiling beams, an open fireplace, and three-panel doors, one featuring an old latch. The first floor has a stud partition, and the forge retains its hearth.
