Description
Holmes House is a farmhouse that likely has origins in the 17th century but was mainly built in the mid-18th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 19th century. It is constructed of Flemish bond red brick, featuring a string course and a dog-tooth cornice. The roof is tiled and dates from the 20th century, along with the brick ridge and left end stacks. The building has an L-plan layout that has been extended to a U-plan, with wings at the rear. It stands two storeys tall with an attic and has a two-window range. The entrance, located on the right, features a late 19th-century flush panelled door and a part-glazed wood porch. The windows are late 19th-century three-light casements with glazing bars and brick segmental arches, while there are also late 20th-century dormers. The lower range to the right has a gable facing the front, and the sides and rear exhibit irregular late 19th-century window arrangements. Inside, the hall includes a run-out chamfered ceiling beam, an open fireplace with a moulded cornice, and a fielded four-panelled door.
