Description

Sarah’s Cottage is a cottage dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, with additions from the 17th and 18th centuries. The rear is timber-framed with squared coursed lias stone and brick to the front. It has a thatched roof and brick end stacks. The cottage is arranged in three units. The front has two storeys and a three-window front with 19th and 20th-century casement windows. A 18th-century ribbed plank door is set within the front gable end, protected by a wooden lintel, with three-light casements above. A lead firemark showing “Britannia” is positioned above the door. A 20th-century brick kitchen extension adjoins the right side of the front facade. Inside, the earlier part of the cottage has chamfered spine beams with ogee stops, and a small open fireplace. The 18th-century section also features chamfered spine beams, this time with run-out stops, alongside a winder staircase. Timber-framed partition walls are also present.
