Description

This milestone, located approximately 47 meters north of the junction with Hospital Street in Tamworth, dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is made of dressed stone and features a cast-iron plate. The flat stone has rounded angles, and the plate displays raised lettering indicating the distances to several local towns: Sutton (8 miles), Birmingham (15 miles), Measham (9 miles), Ashby (13 miles), Breedon (18 and a quarter miles), Castle Donington (22 miles), Sawley (25 and a half miles), and Nottingham (35 miles). The milestone was repositioned following the removal of a terrace for road widening.
