Description

No. 21 Lower Gungate is a shop building dating from the 17th century or early 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of stuccoed brick and features a tiled roof with a large brick stack at one end. The building is two storeys high and has a single-window range. The entrance is located at the right end and includes an overlight above a small-paned half-glazed door. The ground floor has a small shop window flanked by pilasters and topped with a bracketed cornice, along with a canopy that covers both the window and the entrance. On the first floor, there is a casement window. At the rear, there is a small gabled wing. Inside, the building contains a 19th-century fireplace and a boxed beam. The shop front is noted as a good example from the mid-19th century.
