Description
No. 31 St Mary Street is a shop with a dwelling, dating from the late 18th century and altered in the early and late 19th century. The building is constructed of stucco with stone cills and features a painted stone cornice. It has a double Roman tile roof with a lateral brick stack at the rear and an L-shaped plan that includes a rear wing. The structure is two storeys high and has a three-window range. The first-floor windows are slightly arched and contain 6/2-pane sashes. The late 19th-century shopfront features a pair of green glazed brick pilasters with moulded tops on either side, flanking 20th-century doors with large overlights; the door on the right provides access to the upper floor and rear. Inside, the rear wing has a steep-pitched roof, likely older and remodelled in the early 19th century, and includes an open-string staircase with stick balusters and a mahogany rail.
