Description
5 and 7 Lower Gungate are two shops built around 1840. They are constructed of brick and have a tiled roof with a brick chimney stack. The buildings are two storeys high and feature a two-window range with a top brick cornice.
The shop fronts date from the late 19th century. No 5 has a bracketed cornice with a fascia above, an overlight above a six-panel door, and a large two-over-one pane horned sash window to the right. No 7 features panelled pilasters and a fascia, an overlight above paired half-glazed doors, and a large six-pane horned sash window to the right, which is covered by a canopy.
On the first floor, there are windows with rubbed brick flat arches above six-pane horned sashes. At the rear, there is a gabled wing with additional structures built against the wall behind No 9. These buildings are included for their group value.
