Description
No. 11 Aldergate is a house that has been converted into offices, dating from around 1770 with mid-19th century additions. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a two-span slate roof with brick end stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and is designed in the Georgian style, standing three storeys tall with a symmetrical three-window range.
The exterior includes a plastered plinth, ground and first-floor sill bands, and a wooden cornice at the top. The round-headed entrance features a doorcase with battered panelled pilasters, entablature blocks, and an open pediment, along with a fanlight that has radial glazing bars above a glazed door. The ground floor showcases two 19th-century ashlar bay windows, each adorned with angle pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice, as well as a tripartite window with a four-pane sash. The first and second floors have windows with rubbed brick flat arches, with twelve-pane sashes on the first floor and six-pane sashes with sills on the second floor. The left return of the building has 20th-century tile hanging. There is also a two-storey rear wing.
Inside, the property features an open-well staircase with stick balusters and moulded cornices.
