Description
The White House, along with its attached wall and railings, is an early 19th-century building that was formerly known as the Municipal Offices. It is located on Church Street in Tamworth. The structure is built of stucco and features a roof with both stucco and brick stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and is designed in an early Georgian style, standing three storeys tall with a symmetrical five-window arrangement.
Notable architectural features include a platt band over the ground floor, angle pilasters with entablature blocks, a top cornice, and a coped parapet. The entrance is marked by a doorcase with a pediment and a four-fielded-panel door, which is accessed by steps with iron railings. The windows are fitted with sills and keystones above 12-pane horned sashes, with the central windows set in a forward break.
On the left side of the building, there are two lateral stacks, and a round-headed stair window features small-paned glazing. The rear of the building includes a top entablature and a large full-height bow with a tripartite sash window consisting of 10:15:10 panes on the ground floor, topped with a frieze and cornice. A similar window is present on the first floor. The right side of the building is partly brick and has a brick lateral stack.
Additionally, there is a mid-19th-century brick wall with cast-iron coping and railings that extend approximately 15 meters to the north. Inside, the building is noted for its stick-baluster staircase located on the left side, which features an entablature.
