Description
The Market Vaults Public House is a public house dating from the 17th century, with an early 18th-century front. It features painted brick construction with a timber-framed rear wing and a tile roof with a brick end stack. The building is designed in a Georgian style and has an L-plan layout. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has a two-window range. The late 19th-century shop front includes panelled pilasters and an entablature, an etched plate-glass window, and an entrance with an overlight leading to a six-panel door, along with two lanterns. There is an entry at the right end with a 20th-century panelled door. The first floor has windows with rubbed brick flat arches above 16-pane top-hung casements, and there are two hipped dormers in the attic. The rear wing displays square framing on the first floor. Inside, there are chamfered beams, with those in the front room supported by 19th-century iron columns. The upper floors have not been inspected.
