Description
28 and 29 Market Street are two shops dating from the 17th century or early 18th century, with a refronting that occurred around 1840. The buildings are constructed of brick, with a timber-framed rear wing, and feature a tiled roof with brick stacks at the cross-axial and end points. They rise to three storeys and have a three-window range. The modern shop fronts on either side of the entrance include a leaded overlight above a six-panel door. The windows consist of three-light leaded casements set in laced plaster surrounds, which have rosettes at the corners. At the rear, there is an outshut beneath a catslide roof with a dormer, along with a small gabled wing that has a plastered end and square framing on the return. Inside, No 29 features stop-chamfered beams and joists, with chamfered beams noted on the first floor.
