Description

Upper Lodge to the northeast of Tamworth Castle is a lodge built around 1820. It is constructed from stone rubble with ashlar dressings and has a triangular plan. Designed in the Gothic Revival style, the lodge is a single storey with a two-window bowed range. The ends feature piers with loopholes and embattled parapets. There is a segmental-pointed entrance that projects forward, topped with a quatrefoil, and flanked by two-light segmental-pointed windows that have external shutters. To the right, a short wall connects to the remains of a 13th-century east gatehouse.
