Description

32, 33, and 33A Market Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and office. It dates from around 1700 and has undergone some alterations in the 19th century. The building is constructed of chequer brick with ashlar dressings and features a tile M-roof. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, presenting a four-window range.

The ground floor showcases an early 18th-century four-bay arcade supported by round columns, with shouldered arches that have keystones and facetted brackets supporting the cornice. The ground floor has been altered with 20th-century glazed infill, which includes entrances in the right bays. On the first floor, there are windows with rubbed brick flat arches above 18th-century cross-casements that have pegged frames, along with a large 20th-century gabled dormer. The rear of the building features chequered brick and segmental-headed windows, some of which still have their pegged casements, while most have been altered. There is also a gabled wing with blocked openings. The interior of the ground floor has been altered, and the first floor is currently inaccessible.
