Description
Nos. 12 and 13 Aldergate are two buildings that were originally offices and have since been converted into a hotel. They date from around 1800 and have undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The buildings are constructed of brick and feature a slate roof with a brick stack positioned across the ridge.
They have a double-depth plan and stand three storeys tall, presenting a symmetrical facade with two window openings. The windows have sills and are topped with rubbed brick flat arches, featuring sixteen-pane sash windows, although some glazing bars are missing. The second floor includes a casement window and an eight-pane sash window.
Entrances are located on the sides of the buildings, with the left entrance set in a small single-storey addition from the 20th century, while the right entrance is in a rebuilt wall. These buildings are included in the listing for their group value.
