Description

Lawn Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with additions made in the mid-19th century. The original section is constructed from coursed dressed and squared stone of ashlar quality, while the later additions are made of red brick. The roofs are tiled and feature verge parapets with pitched coping and flame finials. A massive ridge stack is located against the cross wing, and the building has an L-shaped plan.

The 17th-century wing projects to the left and includes raised cavetto strings at the floor levels and a raised plinth. The windows are ovolo stone mullioned and transomed, with a stepped arrangement of one-over three lights in the attic, five lights on the first floor, and six lights on the ground floor. The gable pitch continues to the right over a porch that is set flush with the gable face. Above the porch, there is a blind oculus over a heavy 17th-century lintel and a boarded door. To the right, there is a long, low set-back brick wing with two windows and a small pointed-arch light against the return angle. The left side of the 17th-century wing features former five-light and three-light mullioned and transomed windows on the first and ground floors.
