Description
Hollinhurst Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1656, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from coursed dressed and squared stone, topped with a tiled roof featuring verge parapets and brick ridge and end stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan and is two stories high with a four-window front. The windows are 20th-century casements with 19th-century painted heads. The entrance is located to the right of the center, with a straight joint to the right of the door. There is a projecting blind wing at the right-hand end, which has a 17th-century front door in the left-hand return angle, topped with a heavy lintel inscribed with "S H : P 1656". The left and right ends of the house feature labeled blind chamfered mullioned windows, with three lights on the first floor to the left and two lights on the ground floor to the right. These windows were formerly part of a pair, with the label of its partner remaining above a door. The straight joint dividing the two parts of the house, which bears 17th-century details, suggests early alterations, indicating it may have originally been a two-family dwelling.
