Description
Basfordbridge Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with a late 17th-century addition and mid-19th-century alterations. It is constructed from coursed roughly squared stone and features a tiled roof with end stacks and a ridge stack located to the left of center. The building is two stories high with an attic and has a four-window front divided into two parts. The main section on the right has three windows, all with chamfered mullions set in deep moulded reveals, except for the ground floor left window, which has been rebuilt and enlarged. The first floor has four-, two-, and three-light openings, while the ground floor has four-, two-, and four-light windows. A cavetto string runs at first floor level, stepping over the enlarged window and the entrance to the left end, which features a chamfered reveal and a panelled door.
To the left of the main section is an additional late 17th-century unit, one bay wide, which is butt-jointed to the left-hand end. This unit has two-light chamfered mullioned windows and a chamfered entrance reveal set to the right. The right-hand gable includes a further three-light chamfered mullioned window on the first floor, corniced with a blind owl-hole above, and is positioned under the end stack. This gable is particularly notable for its two octagonal flues, which are banded at the base and corbelled out by unusual banded brackets leading to a rectangular corniced top.
