Description

Bridge Number 47 is an accommodation bridge located on the Caldon Canal in Cheddleton, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with stone cappings on the piers. The bridge features slightly concave faces and a single elliptical arch that includes the towpath. The parapet and carriageway are both cambered over the span. This section of the Caldon Canal was opened around 1779 to facilitate the transport of limestone from Caldon Low, designed by engineer John Rennie.
