Description
The bridge over the Caldon Canal, located at SJ 981 521, is an early 19th-century canal road bridge. It is constructed from coursed squared and dressed stone, featuring slightly concave faces. The bridge has a single elliptical arch that includes the towpath, with a raised extrados band. Both the parapets and the carriageway incline upwards to the west. This section of the Caldon Canal was opened around 1779 to facilitate the transport of limestone from Caldon Lowe, engineered by John Rennie.
