Description
This is an accommodation bridge located on the Caldon Canal in Cheddleton, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick and features a stone string at the level of the carriageway, along with stone copings. The bridge has a wide elliptical arch that includes a towpath, and the parapets and carriageway are cambered over the span, finishing with piers that are set out diagonally. This section of the Caldon Canal was opened around 1779 to facilitate the transport of limestone from Caldon Low, designed by engineers Henshaw and John Rennie.
