Description
The bridge at SJ 950 536 is an accommodation bridge from the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared and dressed stone, featuring rounded copings. The bridge has an elliptical arch that includes a towpath and a string at carriageway level. The parapets and the carriageway are cambered over the span and are finished with piers. This section of the Caldon Canal was opened around 1801 to facilitate the transport of cheaper coal to Leek, designed by the engineer John Rennie.
