Description
This is an accommodation bridge built in the early 19th century, located on the Leek Branch of the Caldon Canal. It is constructed of red brick and features stone copings, strings, and rubbing blocks up to the impost level. The bridge has an elliptical arch with a string at carriageway level, and the parapet is cambered over the span, with piers at the ends set diagonally. This bridge, along with an adjacent one, forms nearly a pair over the two limbs of the main canal and the Leek Branch. The Leek Branch of the Caldon Canal was opened around 1801 to provide Leek with cheaper coal, designed by engineer John Rennie.
