Description
Bridge Number 29 is an accommodation bridge located on the Caldon Canal, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with stone pier cappings. The bridge features an elliptical arch and a string course at carriageway level. The parapet is cambered over the span, and there are diagonal piers at each end. A numeral stone is set centrally on the south side, featuring a raised elliptical panel inscribed with the number "29". This section of the Caldon Canal was opened around 1779 to facilitate the transport of limestone from Caldon Low, designed by engineers Brindley and Henshaw.
