Description
The bridge at SJ 936 537 is an accommodation bridge built in the late 18th century. It is constructed of ashlar and features an elliptical arch. There is a raised string at carriageway level, and the parapet is cambered over the span with piers set diagonally at angles, topped with rounded copings. This section of the Caldon Canal was opened around 1779 to facilitate the transport of limestone from Caldon Low, designed by engineers Brindley and Henshaw.
