Description
Numbers 1 and 2 Brook Cottages is a farmhouse that has been divided into two units. It dates from the 17th century, with significant additions from the 18th century and some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed dressed and squared stone, with one bay faced in red brick, and features a tiled roof. The 17th-century bay has a verge parapet with pitched coping on corbelled kneelers, and there are end stacks and a ridge stack.
The front of the building is two stories high and has three windows. On the right side, there is a 17th-century four-light chamfered mullioned window above a similar three-light window, with an oculus to the left. All these windows have stone surrounds and are set in brick. The extension has a butt joint to the stonework and features two widely spaced small casements on the first floor, along with two 20th-century casements on the right side of the ground floor. There is a projecting single-storey gabled addition in the center of the stone part, which likely covers the former front door. The entrance to the cottages is now located at the rear.
